The second edition of the Wild in the City Festival celebrating people of colour in nature will take place at Broomlands Farm in Kent on 14-16 June 2024.

Join us for three exciting days of learning, doing, and being in nature as we challenge myths about our relationship with nature and give space to voices less heard in the environmental field.

Over 3 days and 2 nights of camping, we will celebrate people of colour in nature and step closer to decolonising the environmental field, through a programme bringing together a nature loving community of people of colour, for talks, walks, fireside conversation, natural history, bushcraft, art, yoga, mediation and much more.

Our home for the festival is an organic farm. We’ll make camp in a hay meadow and woodland, with a stream and stunning views across the Ashdown Forest and Weald.

This year we plan to combine three elements within one festival:
• Summer University
• Conference for POC led organisations
• Wild in the City Festival

The Summer University
Is aimed at people who may want to study more in-depth, who are perhaps interested in a career in the environmental sector or to study at university. Lecturers and practitioners will share their subject knowledge through lectures and Q and A’s, a unique opportunity to learn from specialists in the field and to showcase Black expertise. The Summer University will combine online and in person speakers, from the UK, US and Africa. The themes of this years University are Environmental Justice, Ecology and the politics of conservation.

Conference for Black and POC led organisations
A collective of Black and POC led organisations in the sector will co-host a conference, to discuss the politics of leading whilst Black in the sector, shared opportunities, challenges and create peership. This is a unique opportunity to hear from pioneers opening up activities and engagement in a space which has traditionally seen us as not belonging.
