Basketry Workshop, 30th June 2018

£65.00

10.00am – 3.00pm

Escape to a pocket of woodland in south London and join us by the fire for a basket making workshop. You’ll learn the traditional methods of making coil baskets from grasses, in a relaxed woodland course where you’ll get to use your hands and clear your mind.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Did you know most world cultures have a tradition of coil basketry? This day-long workshop covers the cultural history of the baskets and their uses.

You’ll learn how to select and harvest materials for making them and techniques for starting off, coiling and finishing. We’ll provide a simple lunch and refreshments made over the fire.

You’ll get to take home your finished basket to decorate your home (or use for your own foraged finds!)

WHAT YOU NEED

Dress appropriately for the weather and activity. We recommend sturdy shoes.

WHERE

We’ll be based in a pocket of ancient woodland in south London, which formed part of the Great North Wood.
